ECYC General Assembly in Aalborg elects new Bureau, welcomes member organisation from Azerbaijan

comment(s)

The representatives of ECYC member organisations reunited in the General Assembly  in Aalborg, Denmark, on the 15-17th June, elected a new Bureau and welcomed Educational Centre for Youth from Azerbaijan as a candidate member organisation. It also adopted the new statutes, memorandum of commitment between ECYC member organisations and new rules of procedure for membership applications. It was, all in all, a turning point in the almost four decades of ECYC history.

The General Assembly was hosted by Ungdomsringen Denmark, which organised on Friday the conference "Youth in a mutuable world" , which primarily focused on the constantly developing world and the place youth have and should have in it. Check the ECYC Facebook page for some interesting thoughts and quotes from the conference.

The new ECYC Bureau, which took on the challenge to take ECYC forward in the next two years, is made of:

- President: Elena Lotrean (RYNGOF, Romania)
- Vice-President: Gunnar E. Sigurbjörnsson (Samfés, Iceland)
- Vice-President: Chelsea Renehan (UK Youth, UK)
- Vice-President: Stijn Belmans (Formaat, Belgium)
- Treasurer: Antonis Polydorou (CYCO, Cyprus)

Educational Centre for Youth from Azerbaijan works to enhance youth participation in the development of civil society and to support young people from Azerbaijan in their overall development. Since its establishment in 2005, the organisation has carried out more than 700 projects.

The ECYC statutory documents have been overhaulled to reflect the current reality of ECYC and to ensure a smoother decision-making process in the organisation.

ECYC member organisations delegates also met Pascal Lejeune, Head of Unit of the Youth in Action Unit from the Directorate General for Education, Audiovisual and Culture of the European Commission. The new funding programme for youth proposed by the European Commission was discussed and delegates raised concerns about the major changes in financing for international youth organisations, which are likely to have serious negative impact on the European youth field.

ECYC delegates will meet again in February 2013 at the statutory meeting to be hosted by Youth Work Ireland.
